Neal's Maggot
03:05
|
|||
Neal was a little scouse
he lived in a little house
drove a little car and held a little pouch
in his sack he carried meat
for his little friend to eat
he never would go hungry that's for sure
the two of them would play all day
never mind what others say
what a shame they've all gone outdoors
Neal's maggot was the only friend he had
Neal's maggot never did like him back
Neal was thought a little odd
always on and a little off
can you imagine what mommy thought?
He carried him to school
the teachers thought him a fool
'I guess I'll have to show them' thought Neal
He waited til it was late
and following home on roller skates
He did something I cannot yet reveal
Neal's maggot was the only friend he had
Neal's maggot never did like him back
Neal spends his days alone
carrying a dried up bone
the maggot has long since flown away
muttering to birds and trees
passersby are ill at ease
he believes he'll be back some day

Good-Bye
01:12
|
|||
I've decided to let it go
It would best be left alone
I've got better things on my mind
so goodbye
goodbye
goodbye
I've decided to let it go
not gonna chase it any more
Ain't gonna waste more of my time
so goodbye
goodbye
goodbye

Katey And Her Kodak
02:50
|
|||
Who's that dressed all in black?
It's Katey and her Kodak
You'd better stay focused
'cause you never know when she's gonna snap
She gives everyone a fright
Shooting everything in sight
Then retreats to her dark room
and there she stays alone all through the night
1000 words can't describe
the feelings I have inside
Everyone else backs away
but I can see the flash behind her eyes
Everybody's so negative
That is surely no way to live
I will seize this moment to take a shot
and see what develops
Now's the time I suppose
for my feelings to be exposed
and let her know for certain
that I would love nothing more than to hold her close
Who's that dressed all in black?
It's Katey and her Kodak
You'd better stay focused
'cause you never know when she's gonna snap

If all the world were paper
You would be the kind
decorated with bows and ribbons
with every fold refined
or even the type that's hung in frames
in galleries of museums
praised for your aesthetic qualities
your sense of artistic freedom
And I would be the pulp left over
Not good enough to line cages
My only hope to be the filler
for dime store novel pages
If all the world were paper
If all the world were paper
We may have come from the same tree
but that was the last I saw of you
You had the finest grain
and I miscoloured hues
A mill operator separated us
purely by looks alone
I contain some great ideas
but my author is sadly unknown
You however are praised by millions
but you do not say a thing
if all the world were paper
I think it'd be the same
If all the world were paper
If all the world were paper
If all the world were paper
I think it would be quite the same

Looking Back
02:55
|
|||
Looking through boxes
from my early days
I find I could have gone
in so many ways
I wanted to be a
famous scientist
but I broke the test tubes
from my chemistry set
I had tried writing
but soon realized
nobody wants to
read about my life
I packed it all away
when I went to school
from then on I did
what they told me to do
One minute your life is going peachy
but then you turn around
and see all that you've worked so hard on
buried in the ground
It's enough to make you want to
throw up your hands and scream
'surely I must be home in bed
this can't be happening!'
What's that there?
it's my old uniform
from back in the day
when sports were the norm
I remember being good
I could have gone pro
but that was before
my car slid in the snow
One minute your life is going peachy
but then you turn around
and see all that you've worked so hard on
buried in the ground
It's enough to make you want to
throw up your hands and scream
'surely I must be home in bed
this can't be happening!'
oh look here
it's a cassette tape
of the first piece of music
that I ever made
I dare not listen
because it might show me
that I haven't matured
beyond the age of 17
One minute your life is going peachy
but then you turn around
and see all that you've worked so hard on
buried in the ground
It's enough to make you want to
throw up your hands and scream
'surely I must be home in bed
this can't be happening!'

Hey Rube!
02:25
|

Da da da da
Da da da da
Da da da da
Da da da da
There are things in this world
that are simple and clean
but I would prefer more
convoluted machines
I dream
that one day
everybody will come to say
even very simple things are complicated
I have a plan
to improve the nation
by bringing back
Goldberg variations
Hey Rube!
What can you do
to open a parachute?
Can you make a simple thing too complicated?
You cannot escape
once you jump from the plane
You're never so high
as when you fall from the sky
Bamboo umbrella operates cutters
penguin reaches for frozen water
saws through a log, drops in the basket
pulls the string and triggers the musket
opens the cage and the bird is set free
Da da da da
Da da da da
Da da da da
Da da da da
Hey Rube!
Whatcha gonna do
when I build one too?
I can make a simple thing too complicated
When I get to work
I begin with a jerk
that releases a ball
that rolls down the hall
bumps into a matchstick tower
lights a fire under a sprinkler
firetruck comes and when they are done
they ask me if I would like some
and that's how I get my coffee in the morning
Da da da da
Da da da da
Da da da da

The First Of April
03:00
|
|||
I woke up this morning
the first of April
April Fool's
I went straight to the closet
and dug out my power tools
I was going to pull th biggest prank
so big it needed duct tape
I was going to get them all
April Fool's Day
I opened the blueprints tube
and rolled out the plans
for the greatest rig ever known to man
it was set to be two stories tall
it would black out the Newport Mall
I was going to get them all
on April Fool's Day
But it must have slipped my mind
as I booted the robotic mime
that March has 31 days
This experience has taught me
that the distance is only
one day between
a joke and felony
Tomorrow I'll wake up
the first of April
April Fool's Day
and if my cellmate has not
murdered me in my sleep
he'll be in for a surprise
It's April Fool's Day

There Were Three Crows
01:50
|
|||
There were three crows standing on a wire
one said to another 'let's fly a little higher'
the second one responded 'let's fly low instead'
and the third one said 'CAWWWWW!'
There were three crows perching on a statue
one said to another 'I bet that I can catch you'
the second one responded 'I'd like to see you try'
and the third one replied 'CAWWWWW!'
There were three crows plotting out their schemes
one said to another 'the world's not as it seems'
the second one responded 'we're all in a dream'
and the third one screamed...

The Willow Tree
01:38
|
|||
Once upon a time there was
a little boy who grew
up to be a willow tree
that never told the truth
it wasn't long before he had
all the people in his hand
Nobody could understand
just what he meant to say
but any who would admit
their ignorance would pay
Roots will spread when truth is dead
and nobody fights back
when you stand there will you care
and prepare for the attack?
All our hope hangs from a rope
in an attic down the street
If you cannot untie the knot
then you've got to retreat
If you see that crooked tree
I suggest you run away

Rock Me To Sleep Mother
03:54
|
|||
Rock me to sleep mother I need my sleep
I cannot get to bed by simply counting sheep
No more lullabies I want a rockin' tune
pull out your guitar and serenade the moon
Rock me to sleep mother there's a tough day ahead
And I can only face it if I can get to bed
I grew up with the records that made you who you are
so rock me to sleep mother with your electric guitar
Rock me to sleep mother smash that axe to the floor
just like when you did when they asked you to tour
With a baby at home you said you had a better gig
turned down the amplifier and raised up your kids
you gave all for me
the fame, the fans, TV
endorsements, selling out
but never burning out
Rock me to sleep mother I need my sleep
I cannot get to bed by simply counting sheep
No more lullabies I want a rockin' tune
pull out your guitar and serenade the moon
Rock me to sleep mother there's a tough day ahead
And I can only face it if I can get to bed
I grew up with the records that made you who you are
so rock me to sleep mother with your electric guitar

you'll trade your skin
to earn your wage
and toss away
your younger days
You hold the hope
that in the end
you'll get to spend
large dividends
I know you'll get
what's coming to you
But don't forget
forget me
You're riding high
so cut me in
I'll be your friend
guaranteed
you fix your back
again and again
you cannot win
against them
I know you'll get
what's coming to you
But don't forget
forget me
You're riding high
so cut me in
I'll be your friend
guaranteed
now it's over
you've nothing to show
except of row
filled with zeroes
it's no wonder
you were outdone
you were outrun
and lost the fun
all for being America's son
I know you'll get
what's coming to you
But don't forget
forget me
You're riding high
so cut me in
I'll be your friend
